FAU’s next defensive coordinator hails from Miami.

Miami of Ohio.

A source told fauowlacess that Pete Rekstis, former defensive coordinator at Miami-Ohio, accepted the position. One of his former players at Miami-Ohio also tweeted the news, saying Rekstis “took the job at Florida Atlantic this afternoon.”

Under Rekstis, Miami-Ohio was ranked 48th in total defense (363.7 yards per game) and 39th in scoring defense. (22.9 points per game).

Retksis replaces Marvin Sanders, who resigned earlier this month to become a defensive backs coach at USC.

In his time at Miami-Ohio since 2004, Retksis oversaw a defensive unit that had a pair of players drafted. Defensive backs Usama Young (Saints 2007 third round pick) and Jack Williams (Broncos 2008 fourth round pick) were drafted in the last five years from Miami-Ohio. Last season, Roosevelt Nix was the first freshman to win the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year award.
