Students want to have fun. And they want to look good too – but at a reasonable price, says Luis Hernandez.
Hernandez, owner of the Luis Hernandez Hair and Nail Salon, wants to be the one to provide those things to students. His newest salon will be opening soon in the University Center, on the Boca Raton campus.
To make students look good, Hernandez’s salon will provide hair and nail services. From a haircut to a manicure or pedicure, Hernandez says his employees are specialized in what they do.
And Hernandez’s main reasons for opening the salon on-campus: “I like to motivate people. And I’m very positive. The people that are here only have to worry about studying and making it. They are very positive and open to suggestions. It’s very refreshing. So I think I can make a difference.
“I want to make their hair look awesome. That’s all they worry about – school and looking good.”
Hernandez has already started working on that goal. He kicked off a model search for FAU students and is giving the winners many prizes including a $1,000 professional photography portfolio, gift certificates, and other free stuff.
He also wants to give out free goodies to other students. He’ll start that on Sunday, April 7 at 7 p.m. That’s when there will be raffles for free haircuts. Twenty haircuts will be handed out at the party, which will be at Wackadoo’s.
There will also be entertainment at the party – funny videos of the model tryouts.
It’s all about fun for Hernandez. “I want to have fun, they want to have fun.”
Because Hernandez realized that students are broke and can’t afford the best, he gives steep discounts he says. “I think people should be able to walk into a place and get quality and value and fun for a good price. It’s more expensive than Hair Cuttery or SuperCuts, but it’s cheaper than the mall.”
He also wants to deliver a message while cutting your hair: “Life is wonderful. You can do whatever you want to. I’m 28-years-old, and I’m now opening my second salon. You can do anything you want to.”
