“Look up in the sky. It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a… well, it’s just a plane.” Why do people marvel at planes flying in the air? Isn’t that what they’re built to do? Have we gotten to the point where it’s a phenomenon when things do what they’re supposed to do or have our standards of what we find entertaining lowered? I can’t see any fun in sitting in the sun looking at the sky all day. If I want a neck cramp I’ll go sit in the front row of a movie theatre. Besides, the whole concept of an air show elicits images of prehistoric man and his fascination with fire. I can see it now, the Neandertals looking into the sky with wonder and amazement either not knowing what to think or not being able to do so. All in all, air shows are a mindless waste of time.
