1. Residency – Florida State statutes require proof of residency for tuition purposes for all first-time students or those who have not been enrolled at FAU within the last 12 months. This form is provided in the admissions application packet available in Administration Room 201 (or for non-degree students, the non-degree registration packet in the Office of the Registrar). Make sure to include a photocopy of at least two forms of identification with the residency form.
2. Immunization – All students 40 and under are required to show proof of immunization to German measles/Rubella. You should turn in both the student health form and the proof of immunization. Contact Student Health at 561/297-3512 in Student Services Building Room 240, across from the cafeteria on the second floor, if you have questions. Students who have attended FAU within the last 5 years should have already met this requirement. All students must call to make an appointment for health services.
3. Holds – If you find out you have a cashier’s hold on your registration, call (561/297-3105) or visit the Cashier’s office in the Administration building. There you can find out how much you owe and for what reason. Holds usually occur from unpaid parking tickets, overdue library books, or fees not paid (like first semester ID fee).
4. ID Fee – All students attending FAU for the first time will be charged a $10 ID fee; this can be paid at the Cashier’s office in Administration. Your Photo ID can then be picked up with your paid receipt in the Breezeway Room 124 (561/297-2700). This is necessary for you to check out library books since it is also your library card.
5. Owl Card – You can also use your Owl Card available in the Breezeway Room 107, next to BankAtlantic, for purchases. You can put money on your Owl Card for use in copy machines, computer labs, vending machines, and BankAtlantic as well as to pay at Campus Copy, Pack-N-Post, Owl’s Den, and Boca and Davie Bookstores on campus. The photo ID center also serves as a copy center and has postage stamps and you can purchase departmental copy cards there too. Agencies/organizations on campus with a student government budget might also utilize the copy cards, for a minimal fee.
6. Books – Books are available in the University Bookstore in the Breezeway, Room 140. There is also a discount bookstore, called Booksmart, in the Oaks Plaza on (east) Glades Road across from the main entrance to FAU (in the plaza with a Shell gas station) or Barnes and Noble in the University Commons Plaza on Glades Road.
7. Library – With your tuition receipt, you can get a library card at the ID center. If you have a problem using your card, go to the circulation desk and show the staff your receipt for registration. On the second floor there is a computer lab and media center. If the library does not have the journal or book you are looking for, visit their web page for inter-library loan options (www.library.fau.edu/depts/ill/illdept.htm or Adonis at www.library.fau.edu/eforms/eforms.htm or on-line journals at www.library.fau.edu/ecollect/ecollect.htm).
8. Parking – All students on the FAU campus are required to obtain a FAU parking decal. Parking decals are available from the campus parking office located in the police station. You will need to show your driver’s license and car registration. There is a fee (by semester or annual) for the parking decal. Registered students may pay online at www.fau.edu/admin/traffic.
9. Financial Aid – Visit the Student Services Building in Room 227 (2nd floor across from cafeteria) to see scholarships or funding that is available. There is a FAU Grant for eligible students in need of financial assistance during the regular terms and in the summer when funds are available. By filling out a FAFSA, you may be eligible for loans and other financial aid from the government; the form is online at www.fafsa.ed.gov/. The financial aid office’s phone number is 561/297-3530.
10. Insurance – FAU offers minor medical (accident and sickness) insurance from Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York for approximately $429-557/year (with 80% prescription coverage & 100% reimbursement of Student Health Clinic fees). Visit Student Health Services in Student Services Building Room 240 for more information or a claim form or call 1-800-356-1235. For information about international student insurance, call 561/297-3049 in Social Science 301–International students must pay for insurance before they can register!
