Florida Atlantic University Owls (4-2) vs. University of Northern Colorado Bears (4-1)
FAU run offense vs. UNC run defense
The Owls found their running game when they returned home against Texas State. Anthony Jackson and Doug Parker are beginning to pound teams at the end of the game. UNC has a strong run defense, allowing only 53.2 yards-a-game. This will be a battle as FAU will force the run and UNC will try to deny it.
Edge: UNC
FAU pass offense vs. UNC pass defense
Jared Allen has been unstoppable as of late. No one can cover Anthony Crissinger-Hill or Roosevelt Bynes. UNC has been strong here as well on defense but they will be meeting their match, as FAU is a monster in the aerial game.
Edge: FAU
UNC run offense vs. FAU run defense
The Bears are running for almost 200 yards-a-game but FAU is used to that. The Owls will be coming off a game against the best running team in I-AA so they will be prepared to stop the Bears. Look for FAU to force UNC to throw the ball.
Edge: FAU
UNC pass offense vs. FAU pass defense
UNC is careful with its passing game. They have not given up many interceptions and have been productive with 15 touchdowns in five games. FAU has tightened up its pass defense since getting shredded by UCF and the defensive backs have been hungry for the ball. Look for FAU to change the game.
Edge: FAU
Special teams
Mark Myers is still perfect on field goals (3-3). Justin Zaitz has missed four for the Bears. Both teams have excellent punters. Finally, neither team has any touchdowns in this area. I have to stick with Myers for the edge.
Edge: FAU
Intangibles
Well, we found out that FAU does not have home field advantage since no one goes to the games so noise should not be a factor. Schnellenberger is keeping his Owls focused on the playoffs, so do not look for a let up here.
Edge: FAU
UP-staff prediction
In a game before a week off for the Owls, they will dominate and make UNC wish they were still a Division II team. FAU is well on their way to the playoffs and this will just be another thriller to add to their momentum.
