An FAU commuter student accused a resident student from the Timucua dormitory of raping her on November 2. The accused, Aaron Weedo, was charged with sexual assault by police and suspended temporarily by the University pending judicial review.
According to a police report, the female student met Weedo nine days prior to the incident through a mutual friend. On November 2, Weedo called the alleged victim and asked her to return his student ID card, which he had let her borrow. The woman came to FAU to return the card, and the two went to the cafeteria to buy lunch.
Upon returning to the dormitory, Weedo asked the woman to come to his room where the students ate their lunch. Afterwards, Weedo said he had to get ready for work but asked her to stay while he showered. After a quick shower, he emerged from the bathroom in a towel and sat next to her on the bed.
Then, according to the police report, he held her down and raped her while she continually asked for him to stop and told him that he was hurting her.
The alleged victim went to the West Boca Medical Center where she was treated and interviewed by police. According to the police report, Angie Gifford, the Victim Services coordinator from the FAU Police Department, and Renee Boone, from the Palm Beach County Victim Services Division, met with the woman.
Following the woman’s treatment and statement to police, officers returned to FAU. They arrested Weedo and charged him with sexual assault. Police also confiscated evidence from Weedo’s room, such as the towel and bedclothes.
Weedo was released from a Palm Beach County jail late November 4 after posting $3,000 bail, according to The Sun Sentinel.
According to information published in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act, which requires universities to publish crime statistics, the FAU Boca Raton campus has had three instances of forced sex offenses since 2000.
