The losses continue to pile up for the men’s basketball team this season.
After dropping Monday night’s game to the University of Miami (11-3, 0-1 ACC) 85-69, FAU (4-11, 0-3 Sun Belt) has lost six straight.
Head coach Mike Jarvis remains optimistic about his team’s performance.
“I’m glad we were able to come in and compete. I’m looking forward to the rematch next year,” Jarvis says.
The score was close throughout most of the game, with the Hurricanes leading by just four points with 13 minutes remaining.
UM pulled away late, proving to have too much depth for FAU to handle.
One reason the Owls were shorthanded was because senior forward Carlos Monroe was serving a one-game suspension for “academic reasons.” Numerous other players, such as former starting guard Xavier Perkins, are still sidelined with no word on a return.
“To beat Miami you have to have a few more horses,” Jarvis says.
The major factor leading to FAU’s 10th loss in the last 11 games was the fact the Owls were out rebounded 47-29 against the ‘Canes.
“The difference in the game for us right now against Miami is rebounding. For us to be in the game speaks volumes,” Jarvis says.
Jarvis’ speaking volume will be amplified in this week’s practices, because FAU is hitting the meat of their schedule, with each of the next 12 being conference games.
The Owls play next at Middle Tennessee State on Jan. 8 at 8 p.m.
