Not sure which flick to catch this weekend? We got you covered.
Girls night out:
Best bet: Go with the chick flick He’s Just Not That Into You or Confessions of a Shopaholic
He’s Just Not That Into You: This chick flick was created for singles on V-Day. Based on a book, the comedy/drama follows a group of 20- and 30-somethings as they deal with the hardships, sexcapades and craziness of dating. With a star-studded cast — Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson and Ben Affleck, to name a few — there’s no way this film isn’t going to do well.
Running time: 1 hr, 32 min.
Confessions of a Shopaholic: If you’ve read the book, you know exactly what this one’s about. And if you haven’t read the book, I can sum it up in one word: shopping. Hopelessly addicted to spending, a New York City chick also has to deal with finding a job, paying her debt and falling in love.
Running time: 1 hr, 45 min.
New couples:
Best bet: The scarier the better. Cuddle up with your date while watching Friday the 13th or Coraline
Friday the 13th: Everyone knows that if you want an excuse to get close to your date, you should take him or her to see a scary movie. With its murder plot and blood and gore, this suspense/horror remake is the perfect choice.
Running time: 1 hr, 35 min.
Coraline: Not exactly that scary, but this animated sci-fi/adventure film is much like The Nightmare Before Christmas and should induce at least two opportunities for cuddling up next to your date.
Running time: 1 hr, 40 min.
Couples in long-term relationships:
Best bet: A more serious movie with substance, like Slumdog Millionaire or The International
Slumdog Millionaire: Nominated for an Academy Award, this films tells the story of an 18-year-old from the slums of Mumbai, India, starring on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” This is one of those films that evokes every emotion: It’s a drama and a comedy with romance and a look at life overseas. You will definitely have something to discuss after the movie.
Running time: 2 hrs
The International: Ladies, your boyfriend will most likely take you out for a great dinner and give you a cute teddy bear, so take him to see an action movie.
In this one, special agents try to take down the world’s largest bank. Plot aside, the stars of this film — Clive Own and Naomi Watts — are very hot.
Running time: 1 hr, 58 min.
Double date:
Best bet: Make it a comedy and laugh with your buddies at The Pink Panther 2 or Fanboys
The Pink Panther 2: The first one was silly, and this one looks even more ridiculous. But it’s Steve Martin and you’re guaranteed a laugh as Chief Inspector Dreyfus assembles a team of international detectives to catch a diamond thief.
Running time: 1 hr, 32 min.
Fanboys: If you’re a Star Wars fan and you liked Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, this action/comedy flick is right up your alley. The film follows four childhood friends who drive across America to catch a special “Episode 1” showing at Skywalker Ranch.
Running time: 1 hr, 30 min.
