Whether it’s between colleagues, or when Weather and Climate professor James Gammack-Clark is making comparisons to quarterback Rusty Smith with his candy-throwing in class, at some point this semester you’ll hear all the chatter.
Coming off back-to-back bowl game victories, the Owls have caught the attention of most college football followers, and the team is gearing up for what should be another intriguing year. The Owls prepared intensely all summer long for the looming season, but they have not been the only ones hard at work over the past few months.
The UP sports staff has been just as busy digging up the latest football news and dirt. We have spoken to dozens of players and coaches, and are as excited to cover the football team as die-hard fans are to go to the first home game at Lockhart Stadium.
We kick off this special football issue with a preview of what to expect from the Owls in 2009. From the team’s goals, to the plethora of new players expected to step up on defense, to a game-by-game summary, you will find anything related to Owls football in here.
The goal of the issue – and the reason I decided to tackle this colossal assignment like a linebacker – is to help inform readers of what the football team has been up to this summer and their preparations for what they deem should be another successful season.
The reporting does not stop here, either, as the staff and I intend to provide Tavious Polo-like coverage all season long. From the triumphs and tribulations, to the touchdowns and turnovers, the staff and I expect to be on the sidelines and in the locker room at every home game and most (if not all) away matches, getting all the pre-game, in-game and post-game reactions.
If you’ve been closely following the team over the past few years or are just a casual fan, we hope to bring you the very best coverage of FAU football (and the rest of the sports) in the coming weeks and months.
With that said, are you ready for some football?
