After coming off a close loss on Friday night, FAU (12-8, 1-1) managed to even its weekend series against Florida International University (13-7, 1-1) after winning game 2, 4-2.
FAU starting pitcher Paul Davis (4-0) pitched a complete game, allowing only seven hits, two runs, one walk and seven strikeouts.
All of the runs scored for the Owls came off home runs. In the bottom of the first with FAU already trailing 1-0, left fielder Andy Mee knocked a solo home run to left field to tie the game. Mee went 2-for-4 on the day.
Later in the third inning, second baseman Raymond Church hit a solo home run of his own to give the Owls a 2-1 lead.
The Owls added onto their narrow lead in the bottom of the sixth as first baseman Dan Scheffler smacked a two-run homer, giving FAU a 4-1 advantage over the Panthers.
FIU managed to score one more run in the top of the eighth as third baseman Jeremy Patton scored an RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field. Later, the Panthers got two batters on base but were unable to come up with a rally as Davis completed the game to seal the 4-2 victory for the Owls.
FAU will look to win the series against FIU as it plays game 3 on Sunday, March 20, at 1 p.m. in Boca Raton.
