The Owls earned a close 60-58 road victory over ULM on Sunday, Dec. 19 to remain undefeated in conference play.
The game appeared to be a blowout early on, but it became a battle. With the Owls going ahead by as many as 18 in the first half, the Warhawks fought to get the deficit down to single digits before halftime.
ULM made many great runs, but each was met with timely plays from sophomore guard Raymond Taylor. Taylor, making his first start of the season, finished the night with 20 points and eight assists. Of his 20 points, four shots were from 3-point land.
ULM managed to stay in the game thanks to the shooting of junior guard Hugh Mingo. He sank three 3-pointers of his own to make the second half interesting.
Holding a 2-point lead with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, junior guard Alex Tucker turned the ball over, giving the Warhawks an opportunity to tie the game. Luckily for the Owls, ULM guard Tommie Sykes missed both of his free throws, effectively sealing the FAU win.
The Owls now have a record of 2-0 in Sun Belt games. FAU leads the Sun Belt East Division with an overall record of 8-5.
