Four days after giving the Florida Gators all they could handle, FAU was not able to keep up with George Mason in Fairfax, Va., on Saturday.
Despite a team-high 15 points from Greg Gantt, four players from George Mason (4-2) scored in double figures as the Patriots handed the Owls (3-4) their third straight loss.
The two teams were playing evenly early on in the first half, but Mason went on a 10-0 run and held the Owls without a field goal for nearly four minutes.
Midway through the first half the Owls closed the gap back to five points, but that was as close as they got to making a game out of it. Mason led by as many as 17 points late in the second half.
Forward Kore White nearly picked up a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Guard Ray Taylor had just six points and three assists in 27 minutes off the bench for FAU.
The Owls were held to 37-percent shooting from the field.
George Mason forward Luke Hancock contributed with 14 points and seven assists for the Patriots, who helped coach Jim Larranaga earn his 250th victory as the head of the program.
FAU will try to end its losing streak Tuesday as they hit the road to play Mississippi State at 8 p.m.
