It’s finally official. FAU’s football team will have a stadium to call its own.
On Thursday, Sept. 16, FAU’s proposed on-campus football stadium was unanimously approved by the Florida Board of Governors, which oversees all of Florida’s 11 public universities. The decision will now allow FAU to finance part of the construction for the 30,000-seat stadium and related improvements.
“This is such an exciting moment in FAU’s history and will certainly benefit FAU students, faculty, staff, alumni and the South Florida community for years to come,” said Nancy Blosser, chair of FAU’s Board of Trustees, in a press release. “We are grateful to the Board of Governors for their support of this tremendously important project.”
Construction of the open-air stadium, which is projected to cost around $70 million, is set to begin in October. The stadium is expected to have 20 luxury suites with 1,000 club seats and the latest state-of-the-art amenities.
The stadium is expected to be completed and available for use sometime during the fall 2011 semester.
