Tuesday night marked Day 2 of the MLB Draft and FAU had two of its players selected by teams throughout the event.
Starting pitcher Paul Davis was chosen by the San Francisco Giants in the 17th round and infielder Raymond Church was selected in the 26th round by the in-state Tampa Bay Rays.
Davis, who had hopes of being selected in the first 15 rounds, has yet to comment on whether he will sign with the Giants or return to FAU for his senior season. In 2010, after a very successful junior season with the Owls, Davis was selected in the 29th round by the Boston Red Sox but chose to return to the Owls and improve his draft stock.
Davis was the Owls’ ace, churning out win after win this season en route to a 10-1 season with a 2.87 ERA and being named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week twice in the 2011 season.
Raymond Church, a senior for the Owls, started all 57 games for FAU this season and led the team in hits, runs scored, home runs and total bases. Church also finished second on the team with a .351 batting average.
