Owls outfielder Mark Nelson had a home run and three RBI’s, but it was not enough, as FAU fell to Princeton 8-5 in the last game of a home set at FAU Baseball Stadium. The Owls allowed more runs in the finale than it gave up in the previous two games combined (3).
Nelson’s two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning gave FAU a 2-1 lead. However, Princeton would answer back with a two-run double from John Mishu in the top of the fifth inning to retake the lead for good at 3-2.
Owls pitcher Austin Gomber was yanked after giving up three runs in four innings, but the bullpen could not provide a spark. Five pitchers were utilized after Gomber, yet they allowed five more runs. Owls relievers R.J. Alvarez and Josh Gonzaga gave up a combined four hits and four runs.
FAU outfielder Geoff Jimenez was 2 for 3. Corey Keller went 2 for 3 as well. Mike Albaladejo, the Owls leading hitter for the season with 22 hits, struggled at the plate, going 1 for 4.
FAU plays a road game against the University of Florida on March 6 at 7 p.m.
