After an FAU loss nearly a month ago to University of Miami on the road, Wednesday night marked an opportunity for revenge.
Instead, it turned out to be more of the same.
FAU lost to No. 9 UM again, this time 8-5 at FAU Baseball Stadium. The Owls tied the game at two in the fourth inning on RBI’s by Greg Bennis and Mitch Morales, but gave up three runs in the fifth as the Canes took the lead for good.
After allowing an RBI double from UM infielder Ronny Rodriguez in the fifth inning, Owls starting pitcher Bo Logan was yanked in favor of reliever Mike Sylvestri. He would immediately give up a two RBI single to UM infielder Brad Fieger.
Logan allowed eight hits in 4.1 innings.
After hitting three home runs in the series sweep over FIU and being named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, first baseman Mark Nelson went 1 for 4.
Designated hitter Ricky Santiago was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Second baseman Mike Albaladejo went 2 for 3. Third baseman Kyle Newton was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Catcher Mike Spano went 2 for 4.
The Owls will have one final chance this season on April 24 in Coral Gables for a victory over the Canes.
FAU plays a three-game road series against conference opponent Middle Tennessee starting March 23 at 7:00 p.m.
