FAU’s first losing streak of the season is snapped. The Owls, losers of two straight games, headed into Saturday, and put together a pair of wins in a doubleheader versus Princeton at FAU Baseball Stadium.
In game one, FAU defeated Princeton 9-1. The Owls followed up with a 6-2 victory in game two.
The first game featured the first win of the season for FAU freshman left-handed pitcher Bo Logan. He allowed four hits in six innings. Logan had six strikeouts and retired 13 batters upon leaving the game.
The Owls held a commanding 9-0 lead heading into the seventh inning. Hits from Mike Sylvestri, Mike Albaladejo and Alex Hudak helped FAU erupt for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Owls catcher Mike Spano was 3 for 4 with two RBI’s. Albaladejo went 2 for 3 with two RBI’s as well.
Freshman relief pitcher Julian Loret de Mola finished off the game for Logan in the sixth inning and recorded his first collegiate save.
In game two, FAU pitcher Kevin Alexander, in his first start of the season, had two strikeouts in 5.2 innings. With the game tied at one, the Owls answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kyle Newton smacked a two-run single and Ricky Santiago
had a two-run double in the fifth inning.
FAU designated hitter Robert Buckley was 3 for 4. Newton also was 3 for 4 in the game.
The bullpen duo of Ahmed Garcia and R.J. Alvarez closed the game out for FAU, allowing one run for the remainder of the game.
The Owls conclude their home stand with Princeton on Sunday, March 4, at 1 p.m. at FAU Baseball Stadium.
