FAU played the University of Miami Tuesday night, the third and final time the teams would play this season. The Owls would lose all three games to the No. 24 ranked Miami Hurricanes — including the game Tuesday night by a final score of 3-1.
The losing pitcher for the Owls was reliever Austin Gomber (3-1) who came as relief for starter Kevin Alexander at the beginning of the third inning. Alexander, who started the game for FAU, was on a pitch count in his first start since March 24 due to elbow soreness. Alexander did not give up a hit as he pitched two innings before reaching his limit.
Alexander received a no decision for the game and his season record remains (4-0) with a 1.89 ERA. Gomber, who came on in relief in the third inning, would give up two runs in 1.2 innings pitched. He was taken out in the fourth inning for relief pitcher Michael Sylvestri. In total, FAU would use six pitchers the entire game.
Mike Albaladejo led off the game with a base hit, stole second and came around to score on a Corey Keller RBI single to right field to give FAU an early push. It would also be the only run FAU would score the entire game. Miami starter Javi Salas would be credited with the victory as he would give up only one run in six innings pitched. After scoring its only run in the first inning, FAU would have just one runner advance to third base in the game’s finish.
The loss drops FAU’s regular season record to 25-15. The team’s next three games will be played against Troy State in Alabama this weekend.
FAU will be playing its next baseball game Friday April 27 against Troy State.
