The rematch was nearly identical to the previous meeting. After losing to UCF 11-3 in Boca on March 27, the Owls (24-14 overall,12-3 in conference play), lost again to UCF, this time 12-3 on the road.
The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning off FAU starting pitcher Julian Loret de Mola. In his first ever start, Loret de Mola allowed seven runs in the first three innings and gave up nine hits.
Kenny Sharpe relieved Loret de Mola, but by that time the game was out of reach with FAU trailing 7-1. By the top of the fifth inning, UCF stretched its lead to 9-1.
Playing in his hometown, Owls second baseman Mike Albaladejo tacked on a run in the fifth inning, as his double drove in shortstop Mitch Morales.
Albaladejo was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Catcher Mike Spano went 2 for 4. Left fielder Nathan was 1 for 3.
FAU had three errors in the game which led to three runs.
The defeat was the Owls second straight loss to a non-conference opponent, and they are now 0-5 against ranked teams.
The Owls play the first game of a three-game home stand against Arkansas State on Friday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m at FAU Baseball Stadium.
