FAU lost to Western Kentucky 6-1 at FAU Baseball Stadium. The Owls had just five hits to go along with three errors in the defeat.
Western Kentucky scored three runs in the third inning off pitcher Austin Gomber, as the Owls trailed the rest of the way. Overall, Gomber allowed four runs and five hits in 3.2 innings.
Reliever Mike Sylvestri did not fare much better, giving up a pair of runs and four hits in the next 3.1 innings.
The lone run for FAU came in the fifth inning when designated hitter Robert Buckley singled, driving in center fielder Geoff Jimenez.
Second baseman Mike Albaladejo, who leads the team with a .360 batting average and was on an 11-game hitting streak, was 0 for 4. Catcher Mike Spano’s 11-game hitting streak also came to a halt, as he went 0 for 3.
Jimenez was the lone FAU batter with multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with a run.
The Owls dropped to 28-18 overall and 16-6 in conference play, but still remain atop the Sun Belt.
