Update: FAU Board of Trustees unanimously approved the contract of Nebraska assistant Kellie Lewis-Jay as women’s basketball coach.
For the second time in six months, FAU has pried away a coach from Nebraska.
After hiring head football coach Carl Pelini in December, Nebraska assistant coach Kellie Lewis-Jay has agreed to become the Owls new women’s basketball coach, sources told OwlAccess.com.
Lewis-Jay was an assistant at Nebraska since 2007. The Cornhuskers reached the NCAA tournament last season with a 24-9 record, falling to Kansas in the first round. In 2010, Nebraska was 32-2, making it to the Sweet 16.
Lewis-Jay also served as Nebraska’s recruiting coordinator.
She supplants Chancellor Dugan, who spent 13 seasons with the Owls and led them to a first round bye in the Sun Belt tournament and a spot in the WNIT this season. In the season’s final game the Owls were blown out 76-20 to USF in the WNIT first round game.
Dugan was seeking a multi-year deal, but FAU would only offer a one year extension.
Lewis-Jay inherits a team which currently has just six players after seven seniors graduated.
