Carl Pelini and the Owls take the field for the first time this season on Friday.
They shouldn’t expect a full house though.
According to Owl Access, FAU has sold 5,759 tickets for the opener against Wagner. FAU Football Stadium seats 30,000. The Palm Beach Post reports season ticket sales went slightly up, with 4,989 (4,633 last season).
The figure for the home opener doesn’t take into account the student section and the possibility of walk-up fans on game day. Pelini’s five year contract has bonuses for season ticket sales: $100,000 for 12,000 season tickets, $50,000 for 18,000 and $50,000 for 24,000.
New Athletic Director Pat Chun is still strategizing on how to market the team, setting next Friday as his target date to start the process.
“By Friday at midnight I will have some data in my hand about what this place is and what are [sic] opportunities are,” Chun said to Owl Access. “By after that game I’ll have a better sense of what we have and what we can do.”
FAU plays Wagner College on Friday, Aug. 31, at 8 p.m. at FAU Stadium.
