The Hillel Foundation for Campus Life is hosting a Shabbat dinner at FAU for the first time ever during Homecoming, with over one hundred expected attendees, including FAU alumni, students and parents.
“There’s going to be people from the community there, and people from the administration,” Scott Brockman, the Hillel Jewish Life Center’s executive director, said. “The students come for free.”
Shabbat marks the Jewish day of rest, which begins around sundown Friday, when the community will be invited to FAU to enjoy the evening. The idea of celebrating Shabbat at FAU during Homecoming week is to explain Jewish tradition to the Jewish and non-Jewish students in the FAU community.
The Shabbat Celebration will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, at 8 p.m. at the FAU Football Stadium to celebrate and enjoy the seventh day of the Jewish week with a festive meal of chicken and vegetables and a song.
Free of charge, anyone, practicing of Judaism or not, is welcome to partake in this new tradition, but must RSVP due to limited space available.
“We’re going to have space for about 100 students,” Brockman said. “It’s going to be an opportunity for students to experience Shabbat.”
The Shabbat dinner will begin at 8 p.m. on Oct. 26 in the FAU Football Stadium.
