The Lady Owls concluded their regular season road schedule in impressive fashion.
Behind a quartet of double-digit scorers — all guards — FAU defeated North Texas 73-60 on Wednesday night.
Breana Turner led the Owls with 14 points (on 6-12 shooting) in 28 minutes of play. She also recorded five rebounds and three blocks.
Briah Blakely (4 of 9 from the field, 3 of 6 from 3-point range) and Kimberly Smith (5 of 8, 3 of 5) each finished with 13 points.
Smith, playing a team-high 35 minutes, had seven rebounds and three assists to go along with her point total.
Takia Brooks rounded out the scorers with 11 points (on 4 of 10 shooting), three rebounds, and four assists.
Overall, FAU connected on 45 percent of its field goals (28-62) and 37 percent of its shots from beyond the arc (11-29). They were outrebounded by North Texas (37 to 33), but forced 19 turnovers and held the Mean Green to 39 percent shooting.
The Owls appeared to be heading toward a third consecutive loss, trailing 31-24 at the half. A 49-point second half outburst, however, ultimately carried them to the win column and season sweep of North Texas.
“After being down 14, we showed a lot of character and a lot of fight,” Owls head coach Kellie Lewis-Jay said. “To come back on the road and get the win was big time.”
The victory was just FAU’s second in its last nine contests. They now hold a 12-14 overall record and a balanced Sun Belt Conference mark of 9-9.
“It’s a big win for us,” Lewis-Jay said. “A win we very much needed.”
FAU plays Arkansas Little-Rock at The Burrow on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m.
