Two scorers — forward Chenise Miller and guard Breana Turner — combined for 34 points, but it wasn’t enough. FAU lost 72-57 to the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns 72-57 on Saturday night.
Miller’s points came on 8-14 shooting (57 percent) from the field. She also had eight rebounds and an assist in a team-high 33 minutes. Turner played 29 minutes and shot 60 percent (6 of 10).
Guard Takia Brooks chipped in with 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers.
Aside from those players, however, FAU got little to no production. The rest of the team’s eight players recorded just 12 total points.
As a team, the Owls were dismal from the field, shooting 38 percent (21-55). They were unbelievably worse from 3-point range (12 percent or 2 of 17). Turner and guard Latavia Dempsey were the only ones to hit from beyond the arc.
Conversely, ULL connected on 53 percent of its shots, outrebounded FAU (35 to 33), and took advantage of 16 turnovers by the Owls.
FAU went to halftime leading 35-33, looking poised to get back to its winning ways. But the Owls scored only 22 points in the second half, compared to a 39-point outburst by the Ragin’ Cajuns.
The Owls’ loss drops their record to 11-14 overall and 8-9 in the Sun Belt Conference.
FAU plays at North Texas on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m.
