Make it five straight losses for the Lady Owls.
With just two players recording double-digit points, FAU dropped to two games under .500 in a 65-55 defeat at the hands of FIU on Wednesday night.
Guard Breana Turner led the Owls with 15 points (on 4-13 shooting) in 33 minutes of play. Fellow guard Takia Brooks chipped in with 13 points in 23 minutes.
That was practically all of FAU’s offense.
Four starters — guards Kimberly Smith, Briah Blakely, and Latavia Dempsey, and forward Chenise Miller — combined for only 19 points, as the Owls shot just 31 percent from the field as a team.
FAU kept it close with their Sun Belt Conference opponents, trailing 36-30 at halftime, a manageable deficit.
However, FIU connected on 56 percent of its shot in the second half and cruised to the win.
FAU never led in the game, whereas FIU, at one point, built a 17-point advantage late in the contest.
The Owls had their chances, though, as FIU turned the ball over a game-high 21 times and were susceptible inside (24 of FAU’s 55 points came in the paint).
But FAU simply failed to capitalize with lackluster shooting and poor production from a majority of its players.
The loss dropped the Owls’ record to 10-12 on the season and 7-7 in conference play.
FAU plays at South Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.
