The FAU careers of guard Cavon Baker and forward Chris Bryant have proved to be short lived.
An Owls basketball source confirmed to the Sun-Sentinel on Thursday that Baker and Bryant will transfer this off-season after just one year in the program.
No reason was given for the duo’s departure, and their next schools are not yet known. However, their time at FAU was largely tumultuous.
Baker began the season as the starting point guard for Owls head coach Mike Jarvis, but was suspended three games for grade issues midway through the year.
Upon his return, Jarvis slowly worked him out of the lineup in favor of fellow freshman Jackson Trapp. Baker finished averaging 2.6 points in 18 games.
The 6-foot-8 Bryant figured to be a key cog in FAU’s rotation, but it never materialized.
Like Baker, Bryant dealt with grade issues that affected both his playing time and standing with Jarvis, who referred to him as “soft” on several occasions. As a result, he appeared in a mere 8.6 minutes per game, totaling just 11 points.
Though Baker and Bryant’s decisions were abrupt, players defecting from the team has become a theme throughout Jarvis’ five-year tenure.
In the last two years, seven players have decided to exit the Owls, including, most recently, forward DeVonte Thornton, who left for personal reasons.
