FAU senior tight end Nexon Dorvilus is continuing to gain recognition.
Conference USA announced on Tuesday that Dorvilus has been named to the Mackey Award preseason watch list, joining Marshall’s Gator Hoskins as the only C-USA players to make the cut.
The Mackey Award, named after NFL Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey, is presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding tight end. Some of its previous winners include Dallas Clark, Heath Miller, Kellen Winslow and Fred Davis, all of whom have made an impact in the NFL.
Dorvilus had a productive campaign in 2012, recording 30 receptions for 301 yards and five touchdowns. Among Owls receivers who started four games or more last year, his 10 yards per reception was good for third best.
Dorvilus’ junior season earned him second-team All-Sun Belt honors in 2013, FAU’s Student-Athlete of the Year award, and, most recently, a second-team Conference USA spot in Athlon Sports magazine.
The watch list is set to be narrowed on Oct. 14. This will be followed by the list of semifinalists on Nov. 18, and the finalists on Nov. 25.
The award will be voted on by the John Mackey Award committee, and presented on ESPNU on Dec. 12 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
