The condom olympics came to an end Friday with the extinguishing of the condom-decorated torch around noon in Traditions Plaza.

Members of the five competing teams — each made up of at least four students — had their points tallied from earlier events they won this week like condom bingo and sex ed trivia.

The winning teams–Don’t Pho With Us, The Gold Ones and One Legend–received the traditional medals of gold, silver and bronze, along with awards for most spirited and most educational.

The gold medal was awarded to Don’t Pho With Us with a total of 303 points.

Last year, the team received the silver medal. “We tried really hard,” junior and management information systems major Divya Rija said.

The team also received the Most Educational Award for the second year in a row. Junior and anthropology major Kerdija Henry explained their goal this year was to help spread sexual awareness and educate on the good and bad sides of being sexually active.

The silver medal was awarded to the Gold Ones with 231 points while One Legend won bronze with 205 points and the Most Spirited Award.
“That was actually what we were going for, to be honest,” sophomore exercise science major Bryanna Johnson said. “We were just like, OK, well out of everything, we at least have to get most spirited.”

As the torch was blown out and free condom olympic t-shirts were handed out to students passing by, Henry expressed her hope for next year’s competition.

“I think it’s getting bigger and bigger so hopefully next year we have more people participating and getting more word spread around campus,” Henry said.
