Boca Campus’ Parking Garage I is closed due to general maintenance from July 1 through Aug. 15, according to a large sign posted outside of the garage.

Located east of West University Drive on Volusia Street, the closing directly affects students who need to utilize the S.E. Wimberly Library.  “I’m frustrated because I had to park all the way at the College of Education just to go to the library,” sophomore special needs major Cori Jones said. “Meanwhile I have to wear long sleeves and leggings because my classroom is 50 degrees and outside [it] is 100 degrees.”

A maintenance project that includes pressure washing the garage and cleaning up miscellaneous debris is occurring during summer sessions because the number of students on campus is lower than fall or spring semesters, the Assistant Director of Parking and Transportation, Sam Botros told the UP.

They are also replacing some of the “expansion joints and resealing the membranes on the fourth and fifth floors of the garage,” Botros said.

A contract obtained by the UP revealed the combined cost of maintenance on Parking Garages I and II cost $418,932.97 and is being performed by Kaufman Lynn Construction.

According to Botros, the school posted the garage closure information on the school’s website, social message boards, fliers that were handed out to students and a sign was posted on West University Drive.

While maintenance is being done, FAU students may use Lot 7 as an alternative, located north of the College of Education, and Palm Beach State College students may use Lot 10, which is located south of the track field.
