Florida Atlantic women’s basketball’s five-game win streak was snapped on Saturday as it fell to the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers 81-62. The teams entered Saturday as two of the three teams still undefeated in Conference USA play.

Western Kentucky (12-2, 3-0 C-USA) outscored Florida Atlantic (10-4, 2-1 C-USA) 29-11 in the second quarter, carrying a 52-28 lead into halftime.

The Owls made 7-of-11 shots from behind the 3-point arc, but were only able to make 2-of-10 2-point attempts in the first half. They were also outrebounded in the half 21-9.

FAU came out of halftime with a scoring streak, registering 13 of the first 17 points in the third quarter. Senior guard Morgan Robinson hit a 3-pointer with 1:30 left in the quarter to cut the Lady Toppers’ lead down to nine, but that was as close as the Owls would get.

Junior guard Kat Wright scored 17 points, a team-high for the Owls. Redshirt senior Ali Gorrell had 12 points, while Robinson had 10. Gorrell and Robinson led the Owls with five rebounds apiece.

Western Kentucky’s scoring was led by sophomore forward Tashia Brown, who scored 23 points. Junior guard Kendall Noble was second on the team with 21 points.

Florida Atlantic will look to regroup when it visits Southern Mississippi on Thursday, Jan. 14. The game is its first road conference matchup of the season.
