Students looking to shop at the Innovation Village Apartments Outtakes will have to wait, as the location will be closed indefinitely.
According to FAU Director of Marketing & Guest Experience Alicia Taplin, the closing of the convenience store was decided by Chartwells directors and because of a change in focus on other on-campus projects.
“FAU Dining Services made the decision to temporarily close Innovation Village’s Outtakes venue to shift a primary focus of investment towards the renovations of Starbucks, Chick-N-Grill, and Wendy’s this summer.” Taplin said in an email. “With limited sales over the past two years, this particular Outtakes venue is next in line to experience an enhancement and new direction for our resident students within Innovation Village.”
Taplin said there is currently no date planned for the start of renovations or re-opening of the location, which opened in 2011.
For now, former shoppers will now have to visit the Breezeway food court, Student Union or the Sean Stein Pavilion within the College of Business complex to access an on-campus convenience store.
“I’m sure it inconvenienced a lot of IVA students by closing, considering the next closest convenience store is on the other side of campus,” sophomore Alex Smolen said.
While several students felt inconvenienced, others felt indifferent toward the sudden closure of the store.
“Wait, it closed?” junior Jonathon Knight asked. “I didn’t even know that it closed.”
“Outtakes was really overpriced, so I don’t mind that it closed,” junior Lindsay Brame said.
Previously closed Chartwells locations on the Boca Raton campus include J.J. Redhot’s, Red Mango, and Simply Purr, which closed in summer 2015, spring 2015 and fall 2014 respectively.

Would be great to see a price comparison of Chartwells offerings (from candy bars to Wendy’s sandwiches) on-campus and off-campus. I have a feeling like Chartwells holds students price hostage because they know you’ll pay 50 cents more for something rather than walk all the way out to your car and leave campus. The only way this can change is if they start facing more competition from 20th Street and even the gas station across from campus.
