North Texas scored more runs in every inning of its game two victory, than it did in its game one defeat against No. 23 Florida Atlantic softball on Thursday night in Boca Raton.

Senior Kylee Hanson took the mound for the Owls (1-1) in their season opener and continued her success from a season ago, leading her team to a 1-0 victory. Hanson, who led the nation in ERA and shutouts in 2016, recorded her first shutout of the 2017 season.

She struck out 10 batters and did not allow a baserunner until a fifth inning single.

Sophomore Samantha Lageyre hit 2-for-3 and scored the lone run of the game.

North Florida (1-1) used the intermission between games to wake up its bats. The Ospreys scored two runs in each of the first two innings, then four in both of the following two, on their way to a 13-4 win.

North Florida’s Navia Penrod hit 3-for-3, scored three runs and knocked in four.

The Owls scored one run in the first and two in the second, but ended each inning with the bases loaded.

Senior Delaney Rickey recorded three hits in three at-bats, scored a run and added a walk.

FAU will host another doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 10, against North Carolina State and Boston University. The first game will begin at 6 p.m.
