As part of an annual Homecoming contest that looks to give back, student organizations will build sculptures using only canned goods Tuesday.

The FAU Weppner Center for LEAD and Service-Learning and Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement will host the event. All non-perishable items donated at the event will be given to charity organization Boca Helping Hands and FAU’s Beyond Food.

Boca Helping Hands offers hot lunches six days a week and delivers meals to elderly and disabled people in the community.

Weppner Director Nori Carter said Beyond Food uses “the expertise of various on and off campus resources in assisting students in need.”

The canned food sculptures will be judged based on three categories: FAU spirit and pride, creativity and originality, and realistic appearance of the image based on the Homecoming theme, “A New OWLeans.”

Student organizations such as Ballroom Dancing, the Asian Student Union, and The Human Powered Submarine Club, as well as various Greek fraternities and sororities have all participated in the past.

The competition will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Social Science Building
