Editor’s note | March 22, 5:04 p.m. The previous version of this story stated that the next House meeting would be held Friday, March 23 in the Traditions Plaza near Starbucks at 1 p.m. as part of Choose FAU Day. The meeting has been moved to its usual location and time, the Student Union House Chambers at 3:30 p.m.
The Boca campus House of Representatives voted in five new House members last Friday.
Students John Davis, Faith Lewandowski, Gabriella White, Steven Robinson, and Elijah Colas each spoke about why they wanted to join the House.
“I am very interested in government in general,” transfer accounting major Lewandowski said. “I have a passion for helping people. I also feel that I am a good person to have here because I am a little bit older than the general student.”
Junior political science and public management major Robinson said, “I am interested in learning about your procedure and how that works because I want to be in politics later on in my life.”
Following the vote, the House now has 50 members. It can have no more than 62 representatives total.
Speaker of the House Marianne Alex attended a Parkland town hall meeting Tuesday to hand the city’s mayor, Christine Hunschofsky, a copy of the House’s Feb. 16 resolution. Written the day after the Marjory Stoneman shooting, the legislation offered condolences to the victims’ families.
Tomorrow’s House meeting will be held in the Student Union House Chambers at 3:30 p.m.
