Corrections Policy: Updated Nov. 2023
How the UP handles corrections
At the University Press, we value accuracy, integrity and transparency. We strive for each article to be properly reported, fact-checked and correct, as we maintain a rigorous editing process. The UP encourages feedback from readers and will take all suggestions for clarifications, updates and corrections.
If the correction raises an ethical question, the UP will call a meeting with its staff to discuss the proposed changes. The editor-in-chief has the final say in what corrections to run.
Process
Editors and reporters will reassess the story, however, all changes will be made on a case-by-case basis. The story will go through a retroactive round of fact-checking and copy-editing if necessary. If the correction is significant, UP staff will call a meeting to discuss the issue and the story will be updated with an editor’s note briefly explaining the update. The editor’s note will be detailed, including what was changed and when. In extreme cases, the UP may make a formal apology to our readers.
Revisions list
Any revisions, including corrections and clarifications, will be listed at the bottom of each story with the correction/clarification(s) made and the date of the change(s).
Retractions
The UP does not accept unpublishing requests as part of our editorial policy. If there are multiple issues, we will make the necessary corrections. For the UP to consider an article for retraction there must be viable proof that its existence would cause harm or be based on a lie.
Where to submit a correction
To submit a correction, email [email protected] or the writer of the article directly. We will try to respond to the request promptly and take swift action.
