Men’s Basketball: Freshman Omari Grier confirms he’s transferring

Heading into next season, FAU will be without its third most prolific 3-point shooter from last year.

Freshman Omari Grier, who nailed 40 3s in his lone season with the Owls, third on the team, announced on Facebook he is leaving FAU.

“Its truue im transferring,” Grier wrote in a post.

When asked earlier in the season if he would consider transferring if head coach Mike Jarvis’s contract was not renewed, Grier mentioned it was a possibility.

“I would definitely have to sit down with my father and kind of pray on it, and see what God wants for me,” Grier told the UP in February. “One of the main reasons why I came here is because of Coach Jarvis. I would just have to wait and see what my options are at the end of the year.”

Grier was tied with two other freshmen in the nation for 3s after making seven in a Dec. 17 game versus the University of Miami but played just 19 minutes total in the Owls final 10 games.

Grier is the third player to leave the 11-19 squad since the season ended, joining Kore White (transferring) and Ray Taylor (declaring for the NBA draft).
